The current development of the cable industry in Indonesia has shown its competitiveness, with the ability to produce telecommunication cables, power cables and special cables such as signal cables and wiring harnesses. There are 54 domestic cable factories operating in the power cable sector with a production capacity of 450,000 tons per year for copper cables and conductors and 250,000 tons per year for aluminium cables and conductors.
It is highly appreciated that the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of several cable products and their derivatives is very high. Where bare cable conductor and low voltage cable products have achieved a TKDN value of 95%, which means that they have exceeded the minimum TKDN figure.
Currently, there are 13 domestic industries engaged in the telecommunication cable sector with a fiber optic cable production capacity of 240,000 km per year which is equivalent to 6 times the circumference of the Earth (@ 40,000 km).
According to President Joko Widodo’s instruction, the development of the downstream industrial sector must be accelerated through downstream industry programs while reducing exports of raw materials, hence this will create independence for the domestic industry, including in the cable industry sector.
